Not every wedding needs a guest list. Elizabeth and Aaron eloped at Secret Bay in Portsmouth, Dominica — a private villa perched over the water, cliffs dropping straight into the Caribbean — and stood before four people who mattered more than a ballroom full of them
That short guest list wasn’t an oversight — it was almost poetic, because one of those four people is the reason Aaron and Elizabeth ever met. Elizabeth and Aaron found each other by accident, on adjacent treadmills at an Orange Theory class in Florida. The woman running next to Elizabeth struck up a conversation one class, then again the next — and the second time, she asked if Elizabeth was single. When Elizabeth said yes, the woman’s face lit up: “You have to meet my brother.” Elizabeth, traveling constantly at the time, figured it was nothing more than gym small talk and exchanged numbers to be polite.
A few days later, her phone rang — it was the woman from the gym, inviting her to a barbecue that weekend. Not wanting to disappoint her new friend, Elizabeth went. That friend was Aaron’s sister. And a few short years later, she was standing on the cliffside at Secret Bay, watching her brother get married to the woman she’d introduced him to.
The morning was intimate in the most literal sense: Elizabeth getting ready in a villa overlooking the water, her aunt and mother close by for the quiet moments — a bracelet clasped, a forehead pressed together, the kind of closeness that’s easy to lose in a wedding with two hundred guests and impossible to lose in one built around four. Aaron’s side was simpler still — shoes laid out, a boutonniere pinned, a man in ritual solitude getting ready to seal the most important commitment of his life.
The ceremony took place on the cliffside, guests who couldn’t make the trip joining by phone so they wouldn’t miss it, vows exchanged with nothing but the ocean, the wind, and the two women who’d each played a part in getting them there. The first kiss, the celebration that followed — a bouquet toss, a group selfie, family hugging on a hilltop with the islands visible in the distance — all of it had the specific, unpolished joy of a day that belonged to no one but them.
From there, the afternoon moved down to the beach: golden hour portraits on the sand, a walk along the water, a kiss photographed from far enough away that the whole cliffside is in the frame. The day closed the way Secret Bay does best — a fire pit, film shots that lean into the grain and the low light, the ocean still audible in the background of every frame.
“I love love love them—especially these artsy ones that capture the under-the-surface feelings—and I’m incredibly grateful to you.”
